Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government on Monday stopped the registration process of Samajwadi Party's smartphone distribution scheme.

Special Secretary, IT and Electronics, Surendra Vikram said that the registration for SP smartphones, which was open till January 31, has been stopped with immediate orders in the wake of election code of conduct which is in force in the poll bound Uttar Pradesh.

It may be mentioned that Bharatiya Janata Party had approached EC to file its objection over the smartphone registration process and termed it a major breach of the model code of conduct.

In a letter to the election commission, BJP had urged the election body to halt SP's smartphone registration process and also sought action against the party for violating MCC.
