Saharanpur Riots: UP govt suspends DM NP Singh and SSP SC Dubey

Lucknow: Taking stern action at last, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday suspended Saharanpur District Magistrate NP Singh, DIG JK Shahi and Senior Superintendent of Police Subhash Chandra Dubey in the wake of ongoing Dalit-Thakur riots in which two people were killed.

Pramod Kumar Pandey has been named as the new District Magistrate of Saharanpur, S Emmanuel as the new DIG, while Bablu Kumar will take charge as the SSP.

Pandey presently is the Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), while Bablu Kumar is the SSP Muzaffarnagar. Emmanuel currently was serving as the DIG Meerut.

Confirming this to newstrack.com, a Home Department official said that SDM and deputy superintendent of police have also been suspended.

Meanwhile, a team of officers was already sent to troubled western UP district which was on boil for last many days.

It may be mentioned that SC Dubey was also suspended during the Muzaffarnagar Riots back in 2013. He was posted as senior superintendent of police (SSP) Muzaffarnagar.

A day earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that those involved in the riots will not be spared and strict action will be taken in the issue.

UP CM had ordered the setting up a four member team comprising of ADG, Law and Order, Aditya Mishra, IG STF Amitabh Yash, DG Security Vijay Bhushan and Home Secretary Mani Prasad Mishra to probe the matter.

Also, five IPS officers from Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut and Aligarh were sent to the violence hit district. All five are commandant of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).

It may be mentioned that Thakurs in Shabbirpur village had prevented Dalit residents from installing a BR Ambedkar statue on the premises of a temple. In reply on May 5, a man was killed and 15 others were injured in clashes at the village when Dalits objected to a procession taken out by Thakurs to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rajput king Maharana Pratap.
