Rape accused student leader of JNU surrenders to Delhi police

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) scholar Anmol Ratan, who has been accused of raping a fellow student, has surrendered before the police in late night hours on Wednesday.

“Anmol has surrendered at the Vasant Kunj (north) police station,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Nupur Prasad.

It may be mentioned that the accused, who was absconding since August 20, surrendered at the police station around 2215 hours.

Other highlights:

  • “Anmol will be put under formal arrest after going through a medical examination,” said police.
  • He will be produced before the Patiala House Court on Thursday.
  • Earlier in the day, the 28-year-old victim had recorded her statement before a magistrate.
  • Anmol is an All India Students Association (AISA) activist.
