Lucknow: A day after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan blamed the Raj Bhavan for stalling important Bills, Governor Ram Naik on Wednesday held the Uttar Pradesh government responsible for the delay in passage of the Bills.

Mentioning the reason for the delay, the Governor said that the state government had not provided the information sought by him on the Union Home Ministry’s demand. He also said that Khan’s statement was contrary to the facts.

Naik has written letters to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey asking them to take cognisance of the matter. He has also demanded appropriate action in the issue.

“Two Bills – UP Nagarpalika Vidhi amendment Bill (2015) and UP Municipal corporation amendment Bill (2015) – were sent to the House of Governor. Subsequently, it was examined that provisions of both the Bills would affect the provisions of the Central Act. The Bills were then sent to the President for approval on May 4 last,” a Raj Bhavan spokesperson said.
