New Delhi: Condemning the Una incident, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday urged all parties to come together to fight against the Dalit atrocities in different parts of the country and also take it as a challenge.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Rajnath informed that about nine people have been arrested so far. Four police officials are suspended for dereliction of duty, he added.

What else Rajnath Singh said-

  • The atrocities against Dalits is a social evil.
  • The Prime Minister also took cognizance of the issue.
  • During the rule of Congress in Gujarat, the number of such cases were higher.
  • There has been a sharp decline in it since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power.

Showing disagreement with Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanded Constitution of a Parliamentary committee to inquire into the incident.

Previously, four Dalit men had attempted suicide in Rajkot of Gujarat in a protest against violent attack on members of their community for allegedly killing a cow.
