Lucknow: Matches are made in heaven and to make this event memorable the citizens of Bihar have found Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Ranchi a perfect destination for the nuptial knot ceremony and the reason for this is easy availability of liquor at these places.

The prohibition in the state of Bihar imposed by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is forcing its citizen to organize marriage ceremonies in neighbouring states.

As per the available statistics, over 50 per cent of the weddings solemnised in Gorakhpur and Varanasi are from Bihar while Ranchi in Jharkhand being the costliest of these is attracting only the affluent class. Ballia, Chandauli, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Lucknow and Sonbhadra districts are other favoured marriage destinations for Biharis.

Though, the sudden increase in wedding traffic has brought a smile on the faces of wedding organizers, caterers and guest house owners who are charging exorbitantly. This, however, is a cause of worry for local marriage seekers because of sky high prices and limited number of auspicious dates.

This has also resulted in the increased sale of liquor in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. The Uttar Pradesh Excise department has already hiked the liquor license fee in the districts bordering Bihar.
