Video: Prison violence breaks out in district jail of Varanasi

Varanasi: Deputy jailer Ajay Kumar sustained injury and several others were injured following a clash between jail inmates and the guards in Varanasi district jail on Saturday.

The trouble sparked off during morning parade of the prisoners which resulted into a high pitch battle between them and the jail guards. Reports of firing and stone pelting have also poured in.

Deputy jailer got injured in the clash and was rushed to the hospital. District Magistrate, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and other senior officers reached the spot to control the violence.

• Additional force was deployed in the jail premises.
• Addition forces have been called in to control the situation.
• Few prisoners tried to escape from the jail by scaling the wall through a tree.
• Jail superintendent Ashish Tiwar and jailer Vijay Kumar Rai are kept captive.
• A team of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has been called to rescue them.
