Gorakhpur: : Fulfilling the long-pending demand of the eastern Uttar Pradesh , Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid foundation of revival of defunct fertilizer plant in Gorakhpur dubbing it as beginning of industrial transformation in India.

“The credit for the revival of this high capacity fertilizer plant of Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI) goes to the citizens of Uttar Pradesh and not to me. This is not just a revival of a single fertilizer plant in India but this is the starting of Industrial transformation in our country,” Modi said in his address.

The revival of this plant will set off a development chariot in India starting from eastern Uttar Pradesh, which truly and duly deserves to be developed equally as western parts of the country, he added.

Taking a pot shot at the Congress, the Prime Minsiter said that former Union government did not do anything for the betterment of farmers in India and instead of starting fertilizers production in the country, they had to imported it. Adding, the farmers had never seen the prices of fertilizers decreasing during the past 30 years but it has happened in his government.

“In which direction the country will go when the youth are unemployed, fertilizer is imported and farmers are unable to avail the subsidy,” Modi questioned. “I wrote several letter to the Government of India asking for urea when I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat but no reply came from the Centre.”

I have not received even a single letter from the Chief Minister of any state of India seeking Urea since the past 18 months, he said.

On AIIMS:

There are many hospitals in India but All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) maintains a certain standard, Modi said.

“Why should people of eastern Uttar Pradesh go to Delhi for treatment? The Indian government is investing Rs 1000 crore for establishing a 700 bed super speciality hospital in Gorakhpur,” Prime Minister said.

AIIMS will help in eradicating Japanese Encephalitis from the area and will reduce the case of children becoming divyang due to this dreaded disease.

On tourism:

The eastern Uttar Pradesh can do wonders in tourism sector if the government develops it in a unique way. Good roads, aviation facility and infrastructure will increase the influx of Baudh tourism in the state.
