Political strategist Prashant Kishor says good- bye to Congress party
Lucknow: Fed up with internal squabbles in the party, political strategist Prashant Kishor has decided to say a good- bye to the Congress. His team which was putting up at the party headquarters here has already begun collecting its bags and packing up. The move on the eve of the assembly election in the state may cause further harm to the Congress which is trying hard to put up a better show
Confirming the news, sources in the party said here on Monday, he was not pulling up well with some leaders of the party for past some time. He had differences with them on many issues including Priyanka Gandhi’s non-participation in the campaigning in the state.
Several workers and leaders had urged him during the tour of the state to rope in Priyanka . In view of this he had also favoured it. But supporters of party’s vice-president Rahul Gandhi and some others had a different opinion. They believed that this would go against Rahul who was slowly learning the ropes.
The result was Rahul launched a one-month party campaign from Deoria in eastern part of the state without her. The campaign has just ended. There is speculation that Priyanka may join the next phase of campaigning beginning next month. But this kind of speculation has been also made in this past and has always proved wrong.
Party insiders say that he was also not happy with appointment of Ghulam Nabi Azad as Uttar Pradesh party in-charge. At the same time he was in favout of a bigger role to Priyanka in the state. This demand has not found much favour so far.
The strategist known in political and other circles as PK was hired by the party due to his success stories in Gujarat and Bihar. In both the states the parties which had roped him in had done exceptionally well. It was the reason for his appointment by the Congress in Uttar Pradesh.
