Lucknow:The Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha Uttar Pradesh president Swati Singh on Tuesday filed nomination for Sarojini Nagar constituency of the state capital for the UP Assembly elections 2017.

Swati's husband and expelled BJP leader Dayashankar, who accompanied her, was stopped by police outside the collectorate office.

Dayashankar was Uttar Pradesh BJP vice president at the time when he made indecent remark against Mayawati, blaming her of accepting bribe for giving party tickets.

The BSP chief raised the issue several times in the Parliament which forced the BJP to sack Dayashankar from the party.

Dayashankar's sacking did not satisfy the BSP men as they also started making derogatory comments against him and his family. Subsequently, Swati Singh jumped in the battlefield and lodged a complaint against the BSP leaders, a move which helped her garner enough popularity to be named the state president of BJP Mahila Morcha.

Earlier, there were reports that BJP may give her the party ticket from Ballia district, but the party has has decided to field her from the state capital.
