UP Polls: BJP discloses reason behind not fielding any Muslim candidate

Mathura: Clarifying the reason behind not fielding any Muslim candidate for Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Tuesday said the decision was taken after finding none of them able to win.

“Central election committee of the party has the charge of taking decision on ticket distribution to candidates. The committee did not found any Muslim candidate winnable,” said Shahnawaz, who himself is a member of party’s election committee.

He said party picks candidates irrespective of any religion or caste. The selection mainly depends on the ability of that particular candidate, he added.

Taking potshots at Samajwadi Party, Shahnawaz said:

  • Under the regime of Samajwadi Party, the law and order is worst in UP.
  • Crime touched heights in Uttar Pradesh and Jawahar Bagh incident is one such example.
  • In order to hide its failures, SP formed alliance with corrupt Congress party.

It could be mentioned here that Uttar Pradesh is heading for the first phase of polling on February 11.
