Lucknow: Giving the Uttar Pradesh police a chance to heave a sigh of relief, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday announced a day off from work after every 10 days for the cops.

The policemen were not given any periodic offs prior to this announcement. Like all the other government employees, there was definitely a provision of weekly-offs for the cops but it was only limited to the documents. The reason behind this fact had been the inadequacy of policemen in UP. It may be mentioned that on an average, merely 81 policemen are serving one lakh civilians in the state.

The CM’s decision came after the demise of sub-inspector (SI) Krishna Gopal Shukla who was suffering from dengue and still not granted leave by the department resulting in his death. Subsequently, the UP police had appealed for the provision of periodic offs.
