No extension for Sulkhan Singh, to demit office on Friday

Lucknow: Two days have been left for Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police Sulkhan Singh demitting the office but the confusion still prevails in the state.

A letter from the Uttar Pradesh DGP office has again confused the status of the DGP's extension in the office.

According to a letter released by the DGP office, Sulkhan Singh will not be given the extension and will have to demit the office on Saturday.

The letter has stated that Singh will be retired from his post on the scheduled date.

It could be mentioned that, it is reliably learnt that the UP government has sent its recommendation to extend the service period of teh UP DGP to the Centre on Tuesday last. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also held a meeting is this regard on Wednesday afternoon.

It is worth mentioning that Singh will be demitting the office on September 30 as according to the Supreme Court’s guidelines, a DGP is appointed for only two years. It is, however, expected that Singh will get an extension which means the state will get its new DGP in new year.

Sulkhan Singh, who joined the office on April 22 last, is a 1980 batch IPS officer. He is the senior most IPS officer across Uttar Pradesh.
