According to the cross section, this transparent system will lend credibility to 'Padma Awards' beside eliminating the element of discretion and accusation of favoritism. Before this, the state governments used to recommend the names for these coveted awards to the Central government which used to take call on those names

Odisha govt institutes award to promote organ donation

New Delhi: In order to bring in transparency in the process and thwart off allegations of lobbying, the Central Government has opened 'Padma Awards' nominations to the public from this year.

From now onwards, any citizen may nominate any individual for the prestigious awards of Padma Sri, Padma Bhushan or Padma Vibhushan. The nominations may be done on the dedicated 'Padma Awards' website of Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

  • It will help the government system to identify some genuine persons worthy of the honour.
  • Nominations may be made till September 15,2016.
  • The government has already received as many as 1700 nominations till now.
