New Delhi: Cricketer -turned politician, Navjot Singh Siddhu, in his first public appearance after resigning from the Rajya Sabha, said that he did so because he was asked to keep away from his home state of Punjab.

Addressing media persons here on Monday, he also replied to some other queries in this connection.

”No party in this world is greater than Punjab",said the cricketer turned politician. He, however, refused to answer a question whether he would his join the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP).

About Siddhu's resignation from Rajya Sabha

Siddhu, who was a BJP Lok Sabha member from Amritsar from 2004 till 2014, resigned from Rajya Sabha on July 18, just three months after his nomination by the Modi government. His resignation had fuelled speculation that he would join AAP along with his wife.

AAP Congress chief in Punjab, Amarinder Singh had said that Siddhu " is welcome to join party if he so desires".

There was also talk of the politician being projected as the AAP Chief Ministerial candidates in the Punjab polls next year but Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ended it by commenting, "Aisa kuch nahi hai. (There is decision like this yet)".
