Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav to contest UP polls together

Lucknow: Taking a u-turn from what he told the party workers on Monday, the Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday confirmed that Akhilesh Yadav and he are united and will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 together.

After the Election Commission recognised the Akhilesh Yadav faction as the original Samajwadi Party on Monday, it was being said that Mulayam may take the battle over the party symbol 'cycle' to the Supreme Court or contest the elections with a different symbol.

Earlier on Monday, sources close to the CM said that Akhilesh touched the feet of his father and took his blessings soon after EC pronounced its verdict in his favour.

The SP founder announced his decision soon after having a meeting with Shivpal Yadav at his residence here on Tuesday.

The Akhilesh Yadav supporters had gathered outside his 5KD residence to celebrate his victory over his father in battle for the party symbol on Monday. They shouted slogans 'Jai Akhilesh' and also burst firecrackers.

After the EC verdict over the 'cycle' symbol issue, Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter saying that 'cycle will keep moving ahead.'
