Bengaluru: Dissatisfied with the revamp of his ministry by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, actor-turned-politician Ambareesh on Monday resigned as member of legislative assembly (MLA) in Karnataka.

According to reports, Ambareesh had sent a two-line resignation letter addressed to the Assembly Speaker through his personal assistant. The letter was, however, not accepted by Deputy Speaker Shivashankar Reddy as the member himself did not submit it.

“Ambareesh has sent a resignation letter through some other person. We consider any such letter to be valid only if the member himself submits it. I have sent it back,” said Reddy in a statement.

Highlights:

  • Ambareesh’s move came a day after the CM dropped 14 ministers and inducted 13 others in the major reshuffle.
  • Ambareesh was the housing minister before he was dropped.
  • Earlier, he had also served as Member of Parliament and was minister of state for information and broadcasting.
