UP mining scam: CBI probes former Principal Secretary Gurdeep Singh

Lucknow: The CBI, investigating multi-crore mining scam in Uttar Pradesh, interrogated former Principal Secretary (mining) Gurdeep Singh on Thursday.

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation called him at UP mining directorate in the morning. Gurdeep Singh had headed the department for a considerable period during when there were complaints of various irregularities.

According to sources close to CBI, the central agency is likely to quiz two women IAS officers of UP along with another senior IAS officer.

The CBI is probing the matter on the direction of Allahabad High Court. The CBI team closeted with Gurdeep Singh for several hours.

It could be recalled that the Central Bureau of Investigation, was likely to interrogate three former District Magistrates of Hamirpur, including high profile B Chandrakala, Sandhya Tiwari and much talked about Bhavnath.

The probing agency had earlier, found out that the three DMs, while being at the helm of Hamirpur district, allotted mining leases illegally, overlooking the High Court’s order to follow e-tendering process.

According to the sources, CBI may also interrogate Mining officers Moinuddin and Ramkumar in this regard.

There was huge hullabaloo over illegal mining during the previous Akhilesh Yadav-led UP government. But no action was taken against then Mining Minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati. It was only after HC’s intervention that the case had been transferred to the CBI.
