MCGM sounds alert to 78 Maha villages as reservoirs overflow

Mumbai: As many as seventy-eight villages in Maharashtra’s Palghar and Thane districts were on Tuesday put on high alert after two reservoirs, which were supplying water to the state capital, overflowed.

“The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has issued alert to the disaster management cells of the two districts after two reservoirs – Modak Sagar and Tansa – were overflowing owing to heavy downpour in the catchment areas,” said officials.

Other highlights:

  • G B Chitrawanshi, an assistant engineer with MCGM, said the disaster management cells of the two districts were alerted by the Mumbai civic body.
  • The Palghar Collectorate officials said the rainfall in the district was last recorded at 1863.80 mm while the average rainfall was at 1514.80 mm.
