Lucknow: The much-publicised cricket match between Chief Minister eleven and IAS eleven during IAS week last month even found mention in the speech of BSP Supremo Mayawati who made a sardonic remark '' The officers may win matches for you but not the elections.''

The observation of the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister may be construed as a shocker to the bureaucracy because one can easily recall that she had not allowed officers to celebrate IAS week during her five year term as Chief Minister from 2007 to 2012.

One of senior bureaucrats, considered to be close to Mayawati, is all happy about the remark and said it was an indications of things to come in the future. The split in the bureaucracy is not a new thing in Uttar Pradesh and it is becoming distinctive and sharper as the poll dates are nearing.

Despite the assembly polls are still one year away but the officers are already split divided on caste and political lines. ''The officers close to Bahujan Samaj Party in some way or another are a upbeat lot,'' a senior officer said regretting this has been telling on the governance.

The match, she was referring to had hogged the limelight for all wrong reasons as the IAS officers were seen losing the match to CM deliberately. Though a senior officer and part of the match told newztrack.com '' why should others worry about our internal affairs when no one among the fraternity has anything to say on this.''
