Mathura madness: police file chargesheet against 101 accused

Mathura: Three months after the Jawaharbagh violence, the Mathura police have filed a chargesheet against 101 persons including a juvenile.
The name of the accused in the chargesheet, which was filed on Thursday last, includes Rakesh Babu Gupta, Viresh Yadav, Chandan Bose and his wife Poonam. “The National Security Act has been invoked against Gupta, Yadav and Bose,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Babloo Kumar.
“The accused have been chargesheeted for launching an attack on the team of police with lethal weapons resulting in the death of then Superintendent of Police (City) Mukul Dwivedi as well as Station Officer (SO) Santosh Yadav,” said the case’s investigating officer Kunawar Singh Yadav.

“All of them have been booked under several serious charges including rioting, murder and attempt to murder. Moreover, the chargesheet against the minor boy was filed before the Juvenile justice Board,” added the officer.
Furthermore, 20 of the accused are in Agra jail, 55 in Mathura jail, and 25 in Aligarh district jail while the minor boy is lodged in Mathura’s juvenile home.
It may be recalled that at least 27 people, including two senior police officials, were slain during the violence at Jawaharbagh in Mathura of Uttar Pradesh on June 2 last.

The incident:
As many as 27 people including two police officers were killed in the Mathura outrage which took place following removal of an encroachment by hundreds of people including women and children at Jawaharbagh park. Later, around 400 people were taken into police custody.
