CBI probe in to Illegal Mining: Akhilesh engages in damage control
Lucknow: Stung by Allahabad High Court’s order of CBI probe into much-talked about illegal mining in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has summoned Mining Minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati and departmental officials on Wednesday.
According to official sources, the UP CM will also hold meeting with the legal experts along with the departmental functionaries in the wake of the High Court order. Among those who are summoned included Principal Secretary (Mining) and Principal Secretary (Law), sources added.
There has been prevailing perception about the rampant illegal mining in the state which is supposed to be getting official patronage in certain cases. The fingers were pointed towards the role of Gayatri Prajapati who according to many had been enjoying unstinted support from higher echelons of the government.
It was after a series of petitions in the Allahabad High Court, the order for the CBI was made much to the discomfiture of the state government ahead of assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Significantly, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had also held charge of the mining department for about two years.
