New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi on Wednesday announced election dates for upcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.

The moral code of conduct has come into force immediately after the announcement. The code also bars state government from making any new announcement.

Addressing media persons, Nasim Zaidi said:

  • Every polling station will have a 'Voter Assistance' booth: EC
  • There will be complete security and transparency
  • Over 16 crore registered voters will vote in the upcoming polls
  • There will be complete accountibility of photo water slip:
  • Nearly 100% voters have Electoral photo ID Card:
  • Commission will make the entire polling process will be made persons with disabilities friendly
  • Size, format and design of photo voters slip has been improved:
  • Polling-station-wise mapping of person with disabilities being done,assembly elections to be PWD friendly
  • Every polling station will have 4 posters for voting procedure and dos and don'ts,
  • Height of voting compartments raised to 30 inch for further secrecy:
  • 1 lakh 85,000 polling stations in these 5 states this time, increased by 15%:
  • In some states, there will be separate polling stations for women. All women managed polling stations will be set up
  • The limit for expenses for candidates is Rs 28 lakh for UP, Punjab, Uttarakhand & Rs 20 lakh for Manipur and Goa.
  • Expenses above Rs 20,000 have to be out of bank accounts to be set up and it has to be through cheques.
  • There will be strict expenditure monitor mechanism to curb black money.
  • More than 160 million people will be participating in the polls.
  • Candidate will have to affix the photo and mention the citizenship of India on nomination papers.
  • No loudspeakers will be used after 2200 hours in the states. Police and electoral officers will ensure clampdown on it.

Uttar Pradesh:

  • Polling in UP will be held in 7 phases.
  • Phase 1 of UP polls for 73 seats on February 11
  • Date of polling in UP 2nd and 3rd phase; February 15 and 19.
  • Date of polling in UP 4th and 5th phase; February 23 and 27.
  • Date of UP polling in 6th and 7th phase is March 4 and 8.

Manipur: In Manipur, Assembly Elections to be held in two phases; Phase 1 polling on March 4th, Phase 2 polling on March 8th

Uttarakhand: Elections in Uttarakhand to be held on February 15 in single phase.

Punjab: Punjab to go for polls on February 4, 2017 in single phase.

Goa: Goa to go for polls on February 4, 2017 in single phase.

Uttar Pradesh:

73 constituencies (15 districts) will go to polls in first phase

Notification date: Jan. 17

Last date for filing nomination Jan. 24;

Last date for withdrawal of candidates Jan. 27;

Poll date: Feb. 11

67 constituencies (11 districts) will go to polls in second phase

Notification date: Jan. 20

Last date for filing nomination Jan. 27;

Last date for withdrawal of candidates Jan. 30;

Poll date: Feb. 15

69 constituencies (12 districts) will go to polls in third phase

Notification: Jan. 24

Last date for filing nomination Jan. 31;

Last date for withdrawal of candidates Feb. 4;

Poll date: Feb. 19

53 constituencies (12 districts) will go to polls in fourth phase

Notification date:Jan. 30

Last date for filing nomination Feb. 6;

Last date for withdrawal of candidates Feb. 9;

Poll date: Feb. 23

52 constituencies (11 districts) will go to polls in fifth phase

Notification date: Feb. 2

Last date for filing nomination Feb. 9;

Last date for withdrawal of candidates Feb. 13;

Poll date: Feb. 27

49 constituencies (7 districts) will go to polls in sixth phase

Notification date: Feb. 8

Last date for filing nomination Feb. 15;

Last date for withdrawal of candidates Feb. 18;

Poll date: March 4

40 constituencies (7 districts) will go to polls in seventh phase

Notification date: Feb. 11

Last date for filing nomination Feb. 18;
