Lucknow: Thanks to the skilful team of doctors at the Lucknow Medical College in the city, the girl regained her chopped off hand through a surgery on Thursday.

It took doctors of King George Medical University (KGMU) 11 hours to fix the severed hand of a girl.

A man, identified as Rohit Chaurasiya, had chopped off a girl's hand from her wrist with a sword in a busy marketplace in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Wednesday.

The victim was then rushed to the Lucknow medical college where doctors put their best to get the girl out of trouble.

After being informed about the same, few senior officers including District Magistrate Akashdeep also reached the hospital.

"She had lost a lot of blood and she was critical. That’s why she was sent to Lucknow for treatment," said Station House Officer (SHO) Deepak Shukla.

"DM Akashdeep has promised assistance to the family," he added.

Uttar Pradesh women, child and welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi also paid visit to the girl and met her family.

"Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is upset regarding the tragic incident of Lakhimpur Kheri. We hope the girl to get well soon. State government has made proper arrangements for her treatment," said Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

"Stern action will be taken against the attacker," she added.

After the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, Lucknow Medical College has issued a helpline number (9415200444) for the similarly affected victims.

The incident

The mishap took place on Wednesday when a man inflicted some serious injuries on girl's head and hands. The locals chased the attacker and handed him over to the police. Police has taken him under its custody.

It may be mentioned here that this is second such case in the month of August. On August 10, two teenage sisters were set on fire by two stalkers when they were asleep at home in Bareilly.

Opposition launches attack

In the wake of such tragic incident, opposition parties launched scathing attack on Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party leader Ram Govind Chaudhary said, "Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is failing at every front. Its Anti-Romeo Squad has proven another failure."

"No such incidents took place in our governance due to the activeness of 1090," he added.

Congress spokesperson Dvijendra Tripathi said that when BJP had not formed government in the state, it kept on taking potshots at law and order crises in UP.

"Now, in its governance criminals are roaming freely while commoners are suffering," he said.

Bahujan Samaj Party state President Ram Achal Rajbhar said that his party condemns such incident, adding, BJP has also failed after Samajwadi Party.
