IPL 10 RPS vs GL: Stokes destructive strokes script win for Supergiant

Pune: A tremendous unbeaten ton from Ben Stokes scripted a fabulous win for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) against Gujarat Lions (GL) in Indian Premier League match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association ground here on Monday.

Gujarat was good at the bowl until Stokes was not on the crease as RPS once were four down for just 42 runs. Dhoni and Ben built a destructive partnership, making the bowlers and fielders sweat throughout their innings.

Stokes' quick 103 runs off just 63 deliveries and Dhoni's sensible 26 runs off 33 balls changed the course of game and powered Pune to win it by 5 wickets with 1 ball remaining.

Ben Stokes unbeaten century was decorated with seven fours and six sixes.

Earlier, Gujarat Lions failed to capitalize on a destructive start given by openers Brendon McCullum and Ishan Kishan as they were wrapped up for 161 runs against Rising Pune Supergiant.

The openers added 55 runs off only six overs before Kishan departed at the individual score of 31 runs off 24 balls hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. McCullum continued his rampage till scoring 45 runs off only 27 balls. He laced his inning with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Skipper Suresh Raina (8 off 8), Aaron Finch (13 off 6) and Dwayne Smith (0 off 1) could not do much and left Gujarat Lions reeling under pressure at 94/4. Soon McCullum also went back. Dinesh Karthik, however, played an important inning of 29 runs off 23 balls, with 3 boundaries.

Ravindra Jadeja could only last till scoring 19 runs off 12 deliveries with 3 fours. James Faulkner (6), Pradeep Sangwan (1), Basil Thampi (2) and Ankit Soni (0) could not make much contribution.

Jayadev Unadkat also kept a grip over the scoring rate during slog overs and gave away only 29 runs for his 3 wickets in 3.5 overs.

Shradul Thakur and Daniel Christian also managed one scalp each in their three-over spells each, giving away 25 and 27 runs, respectively. Ben Stokes (0/36, 4 overs) and Washington Sundar (0/12, 2 overs) remained wicket-less.
