Indian Hockey team beats Ireland by 3-2 in first Rio encounter

Rio de Janeiro: Indian men’s Hockey team on Saturday begin their Rio Olympics campaign on a high note by beating Ireland by 3-2 in the Pool B match at the Olympic Hockey Centre in Rio de Janeiro of Brazil.

Making a dominant start, despite the maximum ball possessions by the Indians they could manage win by a narrow margin.

Indian team hit goals in the 15th, 17th and 49th minutes respectively.

Rupinder Pal Singh hit two goals while Raghunath scored a single goal for India.

Ireland was late as it scored two goals in the 45th and 55th minute respectively.

India will take on dangerous Germany on Monday.
