Idol in RSS uniform creates a controversy

Surat: A Surat-based temple dressed up the idol of Lord Swaminarayan in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh( RSS)uniform creating a fresh controversy.
The issue came to light when the picture of Lord Swaminarayan went viral on social media on Tuesday evening.
- In the picture Lord Swaminarayan can be seen in white shirt tucked into a baggy khaki shorts with black cap and black shoes.
- The idol was seen holding national flag in one hand.
- Congress as well as BJP have expresseds anger
- The temple is situated in Laskana area of Surat.
- According to the Swami of the temple, the dress was gifted by a local devotee few days ago .He said,"We have a common practice of presenting the God's idol in various dresses."
- "We do not have any other agenda. We did not know that it will create a controversy," he said.
Reaction of BJP and Congress
- Congress leader, Shankersinh Vaghela said that temple authorities must refrain from such activities.
- "What do you want to prove by dressing up the God in khaki shorts? I pity those who have done that. Today, you have dressed the Lord in RSS uniform,tomorrow you will dress the idol in BJP's uniform. This is very unfortunate," Vaghela said
- Gujarat BJP chief Vijay Rupani said," It should not have been done. I am really surprised. If it was done,I don't approve of it,"he said.
