New Delhi: Intelligence Bureau (IB) on Wednesday issued an alert over suspected terror links of the youngest accused in the infamous ‘Damini’ gang rape case of Delhi. Moreover, he was released from jail as he was a minor at the time of crime.

IB has advised the Uttar Pradesh authorities to keep an eye on his movements as the 21-year-old accused hails from Badaun district of the state.

It may be mentioned that prior to his release in December 2015, the IB had noticed his proximity to a Kashmiri cellmate, who was jailed for involvement in 2011 Delhi High Court bombing, at the juvenile home. According to sources, both of them lived in the same room for more than a year and shared a good bonding.

Other highlights:

  • Six months ago, the accused had ended his three-year term in a reform home.
  • He was held guilty with five others for gang-raping a 23-year-old woman dubbed as Damini (also Nirbhaya) in the national capital.
  • “Though there is no specific input yet, we will provide whatever assistance will be required,” said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Badaun Sunil Saxena.
