Is this IAS the main culprit in the Gorakhpur hospital tragedy?

Lucknow: When Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is advising the media to get its facts right about the Gorakhpur medical college tragedy, a letter has exposed the negligence of one of his bureaucrats that has led to deaths of at least 63 children.

The letter dated February 8, 2017, shows that Additional Chief Secretary Medical Education Anita Bhatnagar Jain was asked to give financial approval of around Rs 5 crore for the upgradation of gas pipelines at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.

Anita Bhatnagar, however, remained unfazed and did not give her nod to the financial need of the hospital. Her laxity can be held responsible for the untimely deaths of at least 63 children in the hospital.

It was the height of government apathy when Anita Bhatnagar Jain did not bother to open her office on Saturday, despite heavy political attention to the tragedy. Shockingly, she was absent from her office with her entire staff on Saturday, as the door of her office was locked from outside.

According to the official sources, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wanted to remove her from the post but could not do so following unknown reasons.

The supplier firm, Pushpa Sales, is being blamed as it snapped the oxygen supply to the medical college following unpaid debts of around Rs 70 lakh. The letter, however, has apparently exposed the real culprit behind the tragedy.
