Lucknow: Hriday Narayan Dikshit, on Thursday, was elected as the Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly through consensus.

The speaker was welcomed by the legislators with applauds, as he took oath and the Chief Minister gave his speech stating that he expects the assembly to grow progressively under Dikshit's guidance.

It could be recalled that he had filed the nomination for the speaker of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly on Wednesday last in the presence of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and many other senior leaders.

Dikshit, during his long association with the Bhartiya Janata Party, has handled a number of assignments including that of the leader of the party in UP Legislative Council and other organizational posts.
