Hriday Narayan Dikshit set to become Speaker of UP legislative assembly

Lucknow: Unnao MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Hriday Narayan Dikshit is all set to become the Speaker of the 17^th Vidhan Sabha of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the highly placed sources in the legislative assembly, Mr Dikshit's name has been proposed by the members from all parties. His supporters also include Independent MLA Raja Bhaiya and Gauriganj MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh.

Hriday Narayan Dikshit will be elected for the post of Speaker unanimously on Wednesday and he will take oath of the post on March 30.

Earlier, BJP had given nod to Dikshit's name for the post of Speaker of the 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh.

It may be mentioned that Wednesday is the last date of nominating any other names for the post.

Dikshit, during his long association with the party, has handled a number of assignments including that of the leader of the party in UP Legislative Council and other organizational posts.

• He is known to have sound knowledge of parliamentary affairs.
• He had served as minister of parliamentary affairs when BJP was in power.
