HC orders Centre to take decision on Babloo’s release

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Monday directed the Uttar Pradesh government and the Centre to take final decision on the application of mafia don Babloo Srivastava alias Om Prakash seeking his release.

The order was passed by the bench comprising of Justice V K Shukla and Justice UC Srivastava on the petition of Babloo Srivastava who has spent almost 21 years in the jail.

The court, however, turned down the prayer of Babloo Srivastava for grant of bail.

Petitioner Babloo Srivastava was arrested on April 21, 1995 at Singapore airport and thereafter he was extradited to India for facing trial of 4 cases of murder and kidnapping.

The petitioner has come with a case that he is in custody since last 21 years. Therefore he had moved an application to the state government on September 14, 2013for remission of his sentence on account of his having undergone actual imprisonment of more than 14 years.

Appearing on behalf of state government Imran Ullah additional advocate general assisted by Vikas Sahai Additional Government Advocate submitted that all possible steps are being undertaken for taking decision on the application of the petitioner.

On which the Court directed state and central government to take decision within 4 months.
