To improve male-female ratio: Gujarat shows the way

Ahmadabad: A private hospital in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state of Gujarat has launched a scheme, which appears to be unique, to improve the male-female ratio.

It refunds the money deposited to the hospital by the family for delivery if a female child is born into it. In other words, the service is free in such cases.

The hospital charges Rs 7000 for normal delivery and 20,000 for delivery through operation- cesarean baby.

The registration charge of over Rs 1000 is also refunded to the family blessed with a baby girl. The male-female ratio in Gujarat is 1000-850 which should be a cause of concern. The ratio is better in some other parts but even in these states there is a big gap in the male- female population which has to be filled.
