New Delhi: The Wednesday could be a big day for Bhartiya Janata Party government in Rajya Sabha, when the much awaited GST bill can see light of the day.

The Goods and Service Tax bill has been listed for discussion in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and the BJP government is hopeful of it to be passed through consensus. The Congress, the main opposition party, has also confirmed its support.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that the talks are being held with different political parties as the bill concerns all states. “The GST Bill is listed for consideration and passage on Wednesday in Rajya Sabha and we seek support of all political parties. The mood is in favour of its passage," stated Kumar.

The Congress had, however, earlier stated that no final assurance on the bill been given to the government either by Congress or other parties.

It may be mentioned that the GST is pending in the Rajya Sabha as the BJP government lacks majority and the opposition Congress party is the single-largest party.

The bill, however, was first introduced by the previous Congress led United Progressive Alliance government.
