Lucknow: Alok Ranjan, the adviser to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, continues to enjoy confidence of the government having been given more powers over the Chief secretary Deepak Singhal.

Ranjan, who retired as the chief secretary on June 30, was already appointed the adviser in the rank of cabinet minister with in charge of CM's 24 dream projects under Project Monitoring Group (PMG) and chairman of UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) , In a fresh development, the Chief Minister has asked him to look after and review 150-point Development Agenda of the state government which he used to do earlier also as the Chief Secretary of UP.

It is no secret that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was wary of appointing Deepak Singhal as the chief secretary owing to his image. Akhilesh may have succumbed to party's pressure specially from party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and his uncle and senior minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav but awarded the outgoing Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan with sinewy assignments.

According to sources close to Chief Minister, most of developmental projects were initiated by Alok Ranjan and the chief minister was very happy with the progress so far. In order to maintain continuity ahead of UP assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav empowered the former chief secretary.

It is pertinent to mention that Lucknow Metro, Lucknow-Agra Expressway, IT city are some of dream projects of CM Akhilesh and he wanted Ranjan to monitor these till assembly elections.
