Fire breaks out at Hotel Virat International in Lucknow; 4 dead

Lucknow: At least four people have been killed in the massive fire that broke out at Hotel Virat International, in the early morning hours, at a densely populated Charbagh area here on Tuesday.

The four victims include a woman and a child. They were staying at the Virat International Hotel.

Police said, "Search operation on the first floor is underway. Five people have been taken to hospital for treatment. Cause of fire yet to be ascertained."

SSP Deepak Kumar has confirmed four deaths and said that the toll can increase.

He said, "There were around 35 to 40 people in the hotel at the time of incident. Several people have been rescued safely and the search operation is underway."

Eyewitnesses said that fire started from the basement of the hotel and soon leaped to the upper floors.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the family of deceased and Rs 50,000 to the grievously injured.
