Lucknow: In a bid to strengthen the vote bank ahead of 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections in the state, the Akhilesh Yadav led state government of Uttar Pradesh government is likely to increase the grade pay of diploma engineers.

The government is likely to give its consent on the demand of diploma engineers to increase their grade pay to Rs 4,800 very soon, internal party sources told newztrack.com.

There are around 24,000 diploma engineers in Uttar Pradesh and they are directly linked with public dealing thus keeping them happy may help the Samajwadi Party (SP) to strengthen its vote bank in view of the next Vidhan Sabha polls.

The diploma engineers were up in arms against the state government since a long time to increase their grade pay and the government was not in a mood of fulfilling their demands as may have incited the employees of other departments also to increase their grade pay.

The government, however, will increase the grade pay of employees who had been in the service for more than five years. The government has not confined this to diploma engineers but the monthly allowance of ‘Rojgar Sevak’ will also be increased from Rs 3,600 to Rs 9,000 while the government is also planning to gift cycles to the workers of Anganwadi, Mid-wife and ANM.

Rojgar Sevak are appointed through Zilla Parishad and they work for helping the Gram Panchayat under the MNREGA.
