Chandigarh: The Education department of Haryana has issued a directive to school teachers in the state, asking them not to wear ‘jeans’ at work.

As per the order, the district education officers have been asked to make sure that teachers do not wear jeans when they visit school or office of the education department.

“It has been observed that teachers visit schools or the Education department wearing jeans, which looks inappropriate. Kindly ensure that teachers wear formal clothes in schools and not jeans,” reads the order.

I think it should be the choice of teachers what they want to put on and what not. A teacher’s job is to teach, which can be done in anything -- jeans as well as a dhoti,” said the president of Haryana Vidyalaya Ashyapalk Sangh (HVAS) Wazir Singh.

Highlights:

  • The order was issued on Thursday last.
  • "We will protest against this diktat and meet senior officials of Education department in this regard,” said the HVAS president.
