Doodle on Rukmini Devi : A Google way to pay tributes

Lucknow: Paying befitting tributes to Indian classical dancer Rukmini Devi Arundale on her 112th Birth Anniversary, Google on Monday featured her in a Doodle.

Besides of being a dancer Rukmini Devi was also a choreographer and animal rights activist. She had also worked hard in the re-establishment of Indian traditional art and craft.

She had first performed on stage in 1920 when Bharatnatyam was considered as an inferior dance form.

Achievements:

• Rukmini devi was featured in India Today magazine, in the list of 100 eminent personalities who shaped India.
• She was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1956.
• Honoured with Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1967.
