Devotees take holy dip in Ganga on solar eclipse in Varanasi

Varanasi: Thousands of devotees on Wednesday took holy bath in pious river Ganga on the occasion of Solar Eclipse.

The eclipse in temple city of Varanasi started at 0613 hours and ended around 0647 hours. The eclipse was rare as there was a Panchgrahi yog in Kumbh rashi after 320 years, according to Hindu Panchang.

kashi-620x450Legends have people wash off their sins by taking holy dip in Ganga during solar eclipse followed by donation in Kashi.

It may be mentioned that portals of all the temples including the world famous Kashi Vishwanath were closed 9 hours before the eclipse owing to the belief that this definite time period is considered as inauspicious.
