Lucknow: In a setback to the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) of Uttar Pradesh, Hemlata Diwakar, the declared candidate from Agra Grameen seat has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Hemlata was given the membership of party in the presence of UP BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday in Agra.

What Keshav said?

Hemlata joining the BJP even after being given the ticket shows that days of SP are numbered in the state. The BJP will more than 265 seats in the coming elections.

Was a strong candidate in 2012

Though, Hemalata could not win the seat in 2012 Lok Sabha but she was one of the strongest contenders who had amassed 51000 votes.

What Hemlata said?

“I could not win the elections due to inner bickering in SP and I am sure that I would have lost this time also,” she said.
