Mahoba: A tragic incident took place when at least eight coaches of the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakoshal Express derailed near the Mahoba Station in Uttar Pradesh, injuring as many as 38 passengers.

The incident took place at around 0200 hours on Thursday near Kulpahar area of the district when as many as eight coaches including 04 AC (A-1, B-1, B-2, B-extra), 01 sleeper (S-8), 02 General and 01 SLR derailed at gate number 420 of Kulpahar-Mahoba railway route .

The rescue teams were deployed to the site immediately after being informed about the accident and the injured were rushed to the near by hospital.

According to the Chief Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway, an emergency relief train has been rushed to the spot from Jhansi and the injured have been provided first aid. "Most of the injured have been taken to a nearby hospital in Banda," he stated.

Anil Saxena DG (PR)of Indian Railways stated that out of the 38 injured people, nineteen have been discharged from the hospital while the treatment of others in still going on. He further said, "The cause of the derailment has not yet been figured out, and a probable investigation will be conducted as soon as the rescue operations end."

The accident hampered the railway traffic as many trains had to be diverted to other routes or were cancelled.

Later in the day, an ATS team visited rail incident site in Mahoba and collected all available evidences. Prima facie, there are no signs indicating sabotage. But a deep enquiry has been launched which will include chemical examination (for presence of explosives) and microscopic examination of the broken rail track. Railways has also announced to conduct an enquiry.
