CM Yogi divulges govt's skill development plans for next five years

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday claimed that his government has planned to train 70 lakh youth of the state in the next five years under skill development programme, with a target of 10 lakh youth in first year.

Yogi, in a joint press conference with Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, said that the UP government would help the traditional industries of the state like Banarsi saree, Lucknavi chikan, Bhadohi carpet, Moradabad brass, Agra petha (a type of sweet), Ferozabad glass bangles, Kannauj perfume and Gorakhpur terracotta under the skill development programme.

Pointing out the rise in road accidents, he emphasised on the urgent need of trained drivers and claimed that the government would set up training centres across the state to prepare skilled drivers.

In the first phase, 18 divisional headquarters would have such centres while in the second, all the districts will have these centres.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, the Union Minister for Skill Development Entrepreneurship, reiterated Yogi’s remark saying that Centre was committed towards training youth in various skills and generating as many job opportunities as possible in the next five years.

He further asserted that that the private Industrial Training Institutes (IITs) lack quality and standards.

"Centre is working on a big plan under which it will be ensured that the quality and standard of all ITIs (government and private) were up to the mark," said Rudy. He promised CM Yogi to provide all the financial and administrative help in this regard.

Pointing out that there were 2,300 private IITs in the state, he claimed that their qualities would be improved. He also said that the government has planned to open at least one IIT in all the districts of the state.
