CM proposes, SP disposes: This is Uttar Pradesh police for you

Lucknow: In an apparent defiance of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the district police chief of Gonda Umesh Kumar Singh has refused to suspend three station officers in connection with alleged illegal mining.

The three cops, namely Sadanand Singh, Ved Prakash Srivastava and Manoj Rai, were subsequently suspended after newstrack.com took up the issue.

The matter also threatened to broaden the wedge between the officers and the public representatives as the BJP legislator Prateek Bhushan had uploaded a video on his Facebook wall showing three policemen of UP dial 100 accepting gratification for allowing illegal mining.

The CM Yogi, taking cognizance of MLA's complaint, had directed for the suspension of SHO of Colonel Ganj kotwali Sadanand Singh, SHO of Nawabganj Ved Prakash Srivastava and SO Umri Begumganj Manoj Rai on the charge of poor monitoring.

Despite a letter was issued from Director General of Police (DGP) office, the Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar Singh refused in writing to obey the directives saying the two SHOs and one SO did not visit the spot because as per the circular of DGP himself, they have to be accompanied by revenue officials in case of mining . The guilty lower subordinates had already been suspended, he pointed out justifying that the SHOs and SO had no fault of theirs.

Meanwhile, the spokesman at the DGP headquarters said that the issue was being looked into and SP would be questioned by the superiors in this regard.

Growing dissonance between officers and MLAs, MPs

• There have been a series of tiffs between district officials and public representatives.
• Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar had direct complaints against DM Sanjay Khatri.
• Barabanki MP Priyanka Rawat complained against DM and SP of Barabanki.
• The Union Minister Anupriya Patel nursed grudge against DM Sanjay Kumar and SSP Anand Kulkarni of Allahabad for which both the officers were removed by CM Yogi.
• Amethi MLA Manyakeshar Sharan has locked horns with SP of Amethi Poonam.
• In this matter the MLA of Gonda Prateek Bhushan was the complainant.
