Muzaffarnagar: An FIR has been registered against several members of the Hindu outfit, Shiv Sena, for forcing the organisers of a Ram Leela to deny role of Mareech, a prominent character in the Hindu mythology, Ramayan to Bollywood actor , Nawazuddiin Siddiqui who hails from this area in Uttar Pradesh.

The role was offered by the local Ram Lila committee to the actor after taking the consent of the actor. He did not take part in the Ram Leela this year but he may play the role next year.

Nawazuddiin, in fact, had come here and rehearsed his role. Video of the rehearsal had been made public which had attracted many in the area and outside. Following the release of video Some Shiv Sena leaders who were opposed to a Muslim playing the role threatened organisers with dire consequences.

To avoid confrontation with them the actor decided not to play the role. He was offered several roles but he did not want to play any role against lord Ram. He agreed to do the role of Mareech who was closely associated with demon king Ravan who was subsequently killed by Ram.

Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar told media persons on Friday that the case was registered against the Shiv Sainiks soon after receiving the complaint. Also that he was assured full police protection during the show.
