UP Cabinet : Sangam City of Allahabad to have Metro

Lucknow: The Sangam city of Allahabad will become fourth city in Uttar Pradesh to go on metro rail map. A decision to this effect was taken on Wednesday at the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, he said the Cabinet has given nod to Metro in Allahabad, Detailed Project Report (DPR) of which would be prepared soon.

Uttar Pradesh has now achieved distinction of having metro rail in five cities of the state. Though Noida was the first city to have metro as part of the Delhi metro. The state government has so far sanctioned metros in the state capital of Lucknow followed by in Kanpur, Varanasi and Allahabad.

In another major decision, the UP government decided to distribute free bags to the students from Class one to eight, the CM said.

Akhilesh, during brief interaction with the media persons, however, brushed aside the queries about recent upheaval in the party after harsh statement of Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. He also maintained silence on the much-talked about merger of mafia-turned politician Mukhtar Ansari's party Qaumi Ekta Dal (QED) into SP. The Chief Minister was confident of forming a government in the state again.
