Lucknow: Barring a few incidents of violence, the fifth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections passed off peacefully and recorded a moderate turnout of 57.36 per cent on Monday.

The polling began at 7 in the morning and concluded at 5 in the evening.

The highest polling percentage was recorded at Ambedkar Nagar (64.88 per cent), while Siddharthnagar recorded the lowest at 51.82 per cent.

The district wise polling percentage remains slightly less as compared to the 2012 Assembly elections (57.57 per cent).

The fifth phase polling took place at 51 constituencies, spread across 11 districts. Earlier, the polling was scheduled to take place at 52 constituencies but due to the unfortunate death of Samajwadi Party candidate Chandrashekhar Kanaujia, who was fielded from Aalapur seat, the polling in the region has been postponed to March 9.
