New Delhi: Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog, Arvind Panagariya may be the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Sources say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could announce his name in the next 48 hours.

Sources from the PMO said that government shall announce the name of the new RBI governor before July 18. Panagariya, who is in the race for the prominent post, is speculated to be the most likely successor of Raghuram Rajan.

Other probable names for the to-be RBI governor are: Vijay Kelkar, Rakesh Mohan, Ashok Lahiri, Urjit Patel, Subir Gokarn and Ashok Chawla.

Meanwhile, Rajan’s term as the RBI Governor is ending in early September and he has already announced that he won’t go for the second term.
