Allahabad chief justice and some other judges question new appointments

Allahabad: The new government pleaders appointed by the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has come in for sharp criticism by chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Justice D B Bhosale and some other justices.

Some ruling Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have also expressed themselves against these appointments. The common complaint is that merit has not been the only consideration in some of these selections.

Justice Bhosale got so angry on Monday that he sent for the advocate general Raghvendra Singh and personally conveyed his displeasure to him.

Justices Abhinav Upadhyay and P S Baghel have expressed the same opinion.

The advocate general assured the chief justice and other judges to look into the matter and convey their opinions to the government.

Additional advocate-general will only plead the government cases in the chief justice's court. He is learnt to have told the chief justice.

These justices are of the view that valuable time of different courts was wasted because of some of the new appointees.

Appointment of new government advocates by the succeeding governments is an old practice which has been maintained by the Yogi government .
