Akhlaq Lynching: Court likely to pronounce judgment in August

Greater Noida: While hearing the Akhlaq lynching case on Monday, the additional sessions judge in the fast track court gave more time to the defence lawyer Ram Sharan Nagar to submit evidences in support of the 18 accused in the case.

The verdict in the case may be announced in the next hearing on August 1.

It may be mentioned that 16 people out of the 18 accused are under police custody for allegedly attacking Akhlaq and his son Danish in their house in Bisahda on September 28 last on the suspicion that both consumed beef. Two accused are juvenile and are out on bail.

Statements from witnesses are video recorded

  • Police has started taking statements from villagers over the cow slaughter complaint filed against the family members of Mohammad Akhlaq on June 9
  • The statements are video-recorded for further reference
  • Police has recorded the statements of four witnesses - Prem Singh, Ompal, Kancchi Contractor and Ranveer Singh
